Why learn Spanish Dance?

Spanish Dance improves strength, fitness and flexibility, stimulates your brain and is a great form of self-expression. Get toned while learning some new moves, making new friends and having fun.

Do I need a partner?

No. For the most part, this is an individual dance form, but can also be enjoyed with others in social and performance settings.

Am I too old to start?

Absolutely not, and there is no 'retirement age'! Flamenco is very popular among those who start dancing later in life.

The wonderful thing about this style is that great satisfaction can be gained at any age and as it is emotionally driven, life experience and maturity is an advantage, not a hindrance.

What do I need to bring/wear?

Initially one just needs comfortable clothing for the class but suitable footwear is important. Ideally, you will a need a pair of closed in shoes with a low heel that has a substantial base (at least the size of a 10 cent piece). If you don’t have anything like that, please bring along a pair of stocking socks and you’re welcome to borrow from our large supply of second hand shoes.

We also have new and second hand shoes for sale, in case anyone wants to buy some straight away. We order all of our shoes from Spain and tend to order them in fairly regularly, for when students decide to commit to ongoing classes.

What’s the difference between technique and choreography classes?

Technique classes will focus on footwork patterns, turns, upper body work, hand clapping, and short combinations.

Choreography classes will see you putting your flamenco technique into practice to learn a complete dance.
